NASA’s James Webb Area Telescope (JWST) has had its launched delayed till spring 2019. The telescope was beforehand scheduled to launch in October 2018.

The wait will not be as a consequence of technical or efficiency considerations, says NASA, however slightly due to the complexity of the duty.

“Webb’s spacecraft and sunshield are bigger and extra advanced than most spacecraft,” stated Thomas Zurbuchen, affiliate administrator for NASA’s Science Mission Directorate at Headquarters in Washington.

“The mix of some integration actions taking longer than initially deliberate, such because the set up of greater than 100 sunshield membrane launch units, factoring in classes realized from earlier testing, like longer time spans for vibration testing, has meant the mixing and testing course of is simply taking longer.”

The 21-foot (6.5-meter) telescope was designed to look at a broad vary of astrophysical phenomena, together with the primary stars and galaxies to have shaped within the universe.

The JWST would be the world’s strongest house telescope ever constructed, in response to NASA, and it’ll serve hundreds of astronomers worldwide.
